When it comes to being your best, it's important to remember two key things. There's no one-size-fits-all approach, and an effective wellbeing plan goes WAY beyond just focusing on your diet and exercise.
Embracing a holistic approach is THE KEY to achieving optimal health, and your mindset is a huge part of that equation.
One crucial mindset driver is understanding your "WHY."
Your "why" represents the driving force behind your desire to be well, and it might just be what keeps you on track when you feel like giving up. The trouble is, most people haven't taken the time to truly think about it!
So, why do you want to be well?
What fuels your motivation to take care of yourself?
There's no right or wrong answer here—it's unique to each individual.
There's loads of useful motivating reasons, and you may even have a list! Some might align with your core values, while others could be more personal. Whatever they are, they matter to you.
It could be as simple as fitting into those favourite jeans, or it could be running around with your grandkids when you're older.
Whatever floats your boat! 💁🏼♀️
Some of the 'WHY's' I have helped clients with over the years are - for more energy, to prevent disease, to have less pain, to be more relaxed, get better sleep, gain more confidence, experience better moods, be more productive, be a better mum, lose weight for a special event, balance hormones, come off medication - and along the way fix all manner of health issues!
These reasons are the driving force behind your commitment and consistency in looking after yourself. They're what you hold onto on both the challenging and successful days, reminding you why it's all worth it.
Remember there are both short-term and long-term motivations. While short-term goals like shedding a few kilos for a special occasion are great, it's the long-term sustainable habits that become the foundation of lasting wellness. For me, my motivation centres on maintaining independence and quality of life as I age. I want to live in a body that works and allows me to do all the things with my son and potentially grandkids.... and have my marbles!!
And while pharmaceuticals can prolong life by treating the symptoms - (and are life saving for some), they unfortunately come with a price tag called side effects. Which in many cases can worsen quality of life.
The power to prevent most modern-day diseases, and be our best rests in our hands. Taking ownership of our health and treating our body, mind, and soul with respect is a remarkable gift we can give ourselves. No matter where you are at in life and health.
So take a moment and consider – what deeply motivates you to be well? 🤔
